This Week At The Farm

We are going to try something new, with a weekly update on things going on at the farm.  In this update:

  • New products

  • Baking schedule for this week

  • Happenings at the farm

  • Events.

Hours: Sunday-Friday 11am-6pm. (Changes will be announced next week once Farmer’s Market season starts)

New Products

Mini cupcakes, both vanilla and red velvet were really popular this week!  We are sold out but will bring these back soon.

We now have hanging potted flowers available!  The Petunia Patch has supplied us with Super Petunias which are an amazing flower variety.  They make great hanging baskets and potted flowers that will grow into large cascading colorful displays.  We have them now available at the plant stand.

Beautiful tulip bunches from Nana Louie Flower Farm and are now available Sunday and early this week while supplies last.

This past week Manhattan Candy Company added a few new products for purchase directly from them: Dark Chocolate Toffee, Pistachio Fudge, Huckleberry Fudge, and Cotton Candy Fudge.

Forked Lightning Ranch Iron added three new cast iron pieces: Lodge Whitetail Deer Pan, Lodge #8 Square Skillet, and Lodge Triple Notch #5 Skillet.

Baking Schedule This Week

Every day there will be ciabatta rolls, brioche sandwich bread, traditional sourdough and cinnamon raisin swirl bread.  The pastry case will have at least 3 options, announced every morning on facebook/instagram.

Special sourdoughs planned this week:

  • Sunday:  Traditional, Blueberry Lemon, Roasted Garlic Pesto

  • Monday: Traditional, Cinnamon Maple Pecan, Jalapeno Cheddar

  • Tuesday: Traditional, Cherry Vanilla, Black Garlic Parmesan

  • Wednesday: Traditional, Blueberry Lemon, Kalamata Parmesan

  • Thursday: Traditional, Rye, Rosemary Garlic OR Seasonal

  • Friday:  Traditional, Cherry Vanilla, Jalapeno Cheddar

Activities at the farm this week

Broiler chickens are now 3 weeks old, and will be moving to pasture soon!  We are assembling their new shelters this week so they can roam free and will be protected from predators and weather.

The last lambs were born this past week, soon they will be heading out on pasture for the remainder of the season.  We will be offering sales on half or quarter of a lamb later this year when it gets closer to fall.

All of the plants are now out of the nursery and in the greenhouse!  The forecast is looking a bit chilly at night for another week, so we have a limited amount on the stand so we can continue to take them in at night. All varieties that are still available are out for display, and if you want us to save you something in particular, or want a larger quantity than is on display at the stand let us know and we can make sure to check our inventory for you.

Upcoming Events

Farmer’s markets begin in less than 2 weeks!  We will be at Three Forks (starts May 30) and Manhattan (starts June 5) Farmers markets Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer.  We are looking at reducing our indoor market hours a bit so we can focus our efforts a bit more on preparation and supporting the off site markets.  New hours will be announced next week.

On June 9 from 11-3 we are having another open house at the farm.  The theme is Wild Wild West!  We will have demonstrations and hands on activities: blacksmithing, campfire cooking with cast iron, horse riding, and roping!  We are working on a couple other surprises as well!  We will have a bounce house, outdoor vendor market, and (hopefully) a food truck.  If you have a recommendation on a food truck let us know!  We have checked with all the Three Forks food trucks and they are unavailable that day.

Some things we are working on for later this year….

We would like to continue with Second Sunday Farmer’s Market and Open House at the farm through October (July 14, August 11, September 8, and October 13).   We are putting together the remainder of the summer season schedule and look forward to sharing it with you soon!

Thanks for being an Old Town Farmstand fan and hope to see you at the farm soon!
